Needing to work with someone difficult to find a compromise? Understanding the difference between #compassion versus #concession is critical.
Compassion literally means "to suffer together". Researchers on emotion define it as the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering and not just excuse it.
#Compassion is always rooted in the foundation of truth. It allows you to feel #empathy for the other person and paves a way to finding a solution that is #authentic and lasting.
#Concessions, on the other hand, are not always truthful. You may decide to allow something that you really don't think is right. Whether it is something on a #project or in how a #person is acting on your team, the result is a lacklike of #authenticity, and that has the danger of leading to resentment.
A sample of the difference? The "Compassionist" directly asks someone being difficult 'Are you doing ok? 'The "Concessionist" excuses the situation and tells themselves 'They just have so much on their plate right now.'
Compassion is equally kind to yourself (acknowledging your truth) and also to the other person (helping them find a better way). Practising #compassion changes everything!
